cauliflower ear

cauliflower ear

1. A condition in which the external portion of the ear fills with blood or other fluids, creating a permanent fibrous tissue that results in a malformed appearance. Typically occurs in martial arts and contact sports in which headgear is not worn, such as boxing, wrestling, or rugby. As soon as I started getting a bit of cauliflower ear, I started wearing headgear at every practice and game. I don't care what the other guys say!
2. An ear that is malformed from such a condition. My uncle's got two ugly cauliflower ears from his years as a boxer.
