Used as a polite request for information about something. ("Us" is used instead of "me" if asking on behalf of one or more other people.) Excuse me, I'm a bit lost. Can you tell me where the nearest town is? Thank you for agreeing to testify, Mr. Jenkins. Can you tell us where you were on the night of the 17th?
