Some women believe that steaming reduces cramps and gets rid of discharge, cleanses the uterus and increases their energy, reduces the frequency of UTIs and yeast infections, tightens the vagina and increases blood flow.
Steaming the vagina could affect this healthy balance of bacteria and pH levels and cause irritation, infection (such as bacterial vaginosis or thrush) and inflammation.
In this study, we evaluated the effect of steaming treatment and its time on EMCs of beech wood.
A decrease in MC was much clearer with increased steaming temperature and time (Kollmann and Schneider 1964, Kubler 1965, Teichgraeber 1966, Kubinsky 1971).
In this study, the lower EMC value in 20-hour steamed specimens showed that EMC differences appeared after a short steaming time and at a low temperature (80[degrees]C).
Previous studies showed that the effect of steaming conditions (80[degrees]C) was unimportant but measurable.
(2001) on steamed beech wood (20, 50, 70, and 100 hr., 80[degrees]C), it was found that density, hemicelluloses, wood solubility, and acetyl content decreased with steaming. However, the lignin content of steamed wood was slightly higher than that of untreated wood.
Effect of various parameters on steaming of beech wood.
The question has been raised as to whether the twist reduction from pressure steaming is permanent, or whether the wood has a "memory" such that in subsequent exposure to moisture change the twist properties of pressure-steamed material become similar to those of wood steamed at the normal 100[degrees]C In this technical note, we present the results of a study on the effect of final pressure steaming at 150[degrees]C, on both twist after drying and after subsequent humidity cycling.
Two durations of pressure steaming were evaluated with details of the treatments provided in Table 1.
One-way analysis of variance of twist and MC was used to determine the presence of significance differences between the three steaming treatments.
Paired t-tests were used to determine statistically significant (at 5% level) differences in twist immediately after steaming and at each subsequent stage of moisture cycling.
The lower MC in the control series may be due to less moisture pickup in normal steaming as compared to the two pressure steaming series.
Poor fill, improperly designed vents or partially plugged vents are three factors that could affect part density or steaming. They also should be avoided, he said.
