make (one's) way along (something)

To progress forward along some path or route, especially in a slow, careful, or considered manner. We made our way along the boardwalk, stopping at the various shops to sample their food or look at their wares. If you make your way along Main Street, you'll see large red-brick building, which is where you'll need to turn. We made our way along the narrow path, being careful not to look down the sheer drop below us.
