get up to speed
1. To reach a speed that is desired or necessary. Said especially of a car or its driver. The car is having trouble getting up to speed on the highway. With its souped-up new engine, I can get up to speed in this thing in a matter of seconds.
2. To become well informed (about something), especially with the most recent, up-to-date details. Sharon still needs to get up to speed, so I'll fill her in on our progress on the way to the meeting.
3. To inform someone of the latest details (about something). In this usage, a noun or pronoun is used between "get" and "up." Tom, will you please get the rest of the team up to speed on the status of the project?
