sell away

1. To sell something, especially as a means of disposal or raising funds. (In each usage, a noun or pronoun can be used between "sell" and "away.") I had to sell away most of my jewelry to pay our rent on time. I wish I hadn't sold all my vintage video games away when I left for college.
2. Of an investment broker, to sell or attempt to sell a financial security not owned or offered by the brokerage. The notorious hedge fund manager was arrested for selling investments away from his firm. I would think long and hard before selling away if I were you. The repercussions can be pretty severe.
