just passing through

Traveling through an area, region, city, etc., without stopping for very long or at all. I'm sorry I didn't get in touch with you while we were in Salem, but we were just passing through on our way to Boston. There was supposed to be beautiful wildlife in the area, but because I was just passing through, I didn't have a chance to see any.
