if I were in your place

If I were in your position or situation. The phrase is used to introduce one's advice about the situation. Often written as "if I was in your place," though this is less formally correct. A: "Sorry about earlier. My computer crashed in the middle of our call." B: "If I were in your place, I'd throw out that old piece of junk and buy a new laptop." I would do what the boss says, if I was in your place.
