hutch up
hutch up
1. To shift one's position in order to make room for someone or something else. Everyone at the table had to hutch up a bit so Tom and Mark could sit with us.
2. To occupy some same small space together (with one or more other person). There is so little land for new residential housing options that most people hutch up in the high-rises and housing complexes dotted around the city. At one point, my parents, sisters, brother, his wife, their kids, and I were all hutched up together under the same roof.
