more is less

more is less

The notion that a large or excessive amount of something can be detrimental or less effective than a smaller one. Sometimes hyphenated and used as a modifier before a noun. A less common variant of "less is more." Try to remember that more is usually less when it comes to lengthy expositions and backstories for the characters in your story. The instructor always has a more-is-less mentality when it comes to the use of color in our paintings.
