gunning for (someone or something)

gunning for (someone or something)

1. Pursuing something or someone aggressively. Even since I got that promotion, Mike has been gunning for me. I know Emily is gunning for that job, but it sounds like she has a lot of competition.
2. Supporting someone or something. Sally is my friend, so of course I'm gunning for her in the election.
