1. noun, informal An ambitious, well-educated young person who has a high-paying professional career and leads an affluent lifestyle. Cars like that would only ever be attractive to yuppies with too much money on their hands and not enough common sense. Oh, come off it, Darryl. You earn a six-figure-salary, you drive a Corvette, and you play squash on the weekends. You are the definition of a yuppie!
2. adjective, informal Of, describing, or indicating such a person. This used to be a funky, laid-back town, but it has been turning into a real yuppie hotspot ever since the tech boom in the late 2000s. Ah, the pumpkin spice latte—the yuppie drink of choice!

A young urban professional in his or her twenties or thirties with an affluent lifestyle. This acronymic term dates from the 1980s. Newsweek characterized 1984 as “the Year of the Yuppie.” The television series Thirtysomething, showing from 1987 to 1991, featured men and women in their thirties who fit the profile of yuppies.
