ding up

1. To make several small dents or nicks on the surface of something. A noun or pronoun can be used between "ding" and "up." I dinged up my brand new bike when I crashed. That hailstorm really dinged up my car.
2. To injure someone or a part of someone's body, especially in a minor or superficial way. A noun or pronoun can be used between "ding" and "up." He dinged up his leg in practice, but he should be ready to play in the game this Friday. A: "I heard you were in a car an accident on the way to work! Are you OK?" B: "I got dinged up a bit, but I'm fine."
3. To negatively affect someone on an emotional or psychological level, especially their ego or pride. A noun or pronoun can be used between "ding" and "up." It dinged my ego up a bit to admit that I had been wrong. The crash dinged up my pride more than anything else.
