wave to (someone or something)

To wave one's hand from side to side in the direction of or while looking at someone or something. A: "Who's that guy waving to you?" B: "I don't know. I've never seen him before." I waved to the bus, but it didn't stop for me. People gathered on the pier, waving to the cruise ship as it sailed away.
