war over (something)
1. To wage war (on some other country or group of people) in order to obtain or control something. The various tribes in the region have been warring over this land for centuries. Several different countries warred over control of the trade route.
2. To engage in a prolonged and bitter dispute (with someone or some group) because of something. Teachers and the school board have been warring over the recent rollout of pay cuts. The alliance of companies said it is ready to war over the proposed legislation should the government try to push it through Congress.

to fight about who is to get someone or something. Stop warring over Tom. He refuses to play on either team. There is no point in warring over the contract.
