wish (one) ill

wish (one) ill

To wish poor fortune on someone; to hope someone fails. The breakup was hard, but there was no animosity on either side—I don't wish him ill or anything. It's pretty petty to be wishing her ill like that, just because she's pursuing a career with a different company.
