Used to acknowledge that the other person's action or witticism was especially clever or appropriate. Modeled after praise one might give to someone in an athletic contest or competition. So he got his boss to assign him to a story in Philly so he could catch the 76ers' championship game? Wow, well played! A: "I've been shucking oysters all afternoon long." B: "Hm, you must feel like a shell of your former self." A: "Ha, well played."
