tick (something) off on (one's) fingers

tick (something) off on (one's) fingers

To enumerate or count down a list of things by touching one's fingers in succession as one states the items aloud. It's important to use body language when presenting information to people. If you have a list of topics or ideas, tick them off on your fingers; the image of it will help people remember them.
