stop up
1. To become clogged, plugged, or impassable. I'm calling the plumber right now because the toilet is stopped up again. I hate the way my nose stops up whenever spring starts because of all my allergies.
2. To cause something to become clogged, plugged, or impassable; to fill a hole or gap in something. In this usage, a noun or pronoun can be used between "stop" and "up." We've stopped up the leak with rags for the moment, but that won't hold for very long. Don't use so much toilet paper or you'll stop it up when you flush!
3. To cause someone to become unable to pass stool; to make someone constipated. In this usage, a noun or pronoun can be used between "stop" and "up." Eating so much rice during my time in Japan really stopped me up.
