1. Of a steam-powered vehicle, to move forward. The ship steamed ahead into the night, taking Marissa away from me forever. The train steamed ahead through the mountain pass, a testament to human ingenuity.
2. To continue moving or traveling forward with speed and determination. Most of the group was exhausted, but the leader of the expedition just steamed ahead. The forward gained control of the hockey puck and steamed ahead down the ice.
3. To continue to progress or proceed with determination and enthusiasm, especially without consideration of outside factors. The company is steaming ahead with their global expansion, despite the protests of shareholders. My parents are steaming ahead with their ridiculous plan to move to Alaska. You need to stop steaming ahead without consulting the rest of us!
