To have a need to release of intense pent-up emotions or energy by engaging in some kind of enjoyable, vigorous, or relaxing activity. I needed to let out some steam after our fight, so I went for a run in the woods. When work gets frustrating and I need to let out steam, I like to go bowling with my buddies.
