1. To remain in a pair or a group with one or more other people or animals. OK, kids, please stay together as we make our way through the museum. We don't want anyone to get lost! The herd stays together throughout the migration.
2. To remain as a romantic couple. My parents only stayed together until we all went to college. They got a divorce pretty shortly thereafter. I honestly don't know why Tim and Stacy stay together. They obviously aren't very compatible.
3. To remain functional as a cohesive group or organization. The media empire has had trouble staying together in the face of these financial woes and criminal allegations. Serious doubts have been cast on the EU's ability to stay together in the near future.
