cliché Not especially desirable, beneficial, or worthy of excitement, but still better than nothing; it could be worse. Many different variants of "sharp stick" are sometimes used. I mean, it was nice of him, but what will I do with a bowling ball? Oh well, better than a poke in the eye, I suppose! A: "Twenty long years of service, and all they're giving me is this cheap watch!" B: "Still, it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!" They're offering us $1,000 per person for the settlement. It's not much, but I guess it's better than a poke in the eye with a burnt stick.

shitty

1. rude slang Particularly rotten, awful, or terrible; of exceptionally poor quality. What a shitty vacation. It rained the whole time, and half of us were stuck inside with a stomach virus. My friend asked me to read his shitty short stories and then gets offended when I gave him my honest feedback.
2. rude slang Extremely mean or inconsiderate. It was a shitty thing to do, and I'm sorry. Jane's ex was so shitty to her. I really hope she doesn't consider getting back together.

shitty end of the stick

rude slang The worst, least pleasant, or most difficult aspect of something. Usually used after "get." You have to stay tough during business negotiations or else you may end up getting the shitty end of the stick. With three older brothers, I always get the shitty end of the stick when it comes to doing chores.
