squeak out

1. To make or utter squeaks. The mice began squeaking out in their cages, sensing that something dangerous had entered the lab.
2. To utter something in a thin, squeaky voice. A noun or pronoun can be used "squeak" and "out." The child squeaked out an apology after being upbraided by her father. I was so out of breath that I could only squeak the words out.
3. To manage achieve or accomplish something very narrowly. A noun or pronoun can be used "squeak" and "out." The team could squeak out a victory if they make this field goal. I thought for sure I had failed the exam, but I managed to squeak it out with a D.
