come out of the box

To start something in a particular manner or way. Primarily heard in US. The company's latest video game console has come out of the box very well and proven wildly popular. I came out of the box a bit slow to find what I wanted to study in college, but by my second year I felt really confident in my degree.

come out of the box

AMERICAN
You use come out of the box to talk about how someone or something starts an activity or process. Back-to-school sales are coming out of the box very strongly. Note: This refers to the game of baseball. A player runs out of the box, which is the marked area where the batter stands, towards first base after hitting the ball.
