To start something in a particular manner or way. Primarily heard in US. The company's latest video game console has come out of the box very well and proven wildly popular. I came out of the box a bit slow to find what I wanted to study in college, but by my second year I felt really confident in my degree.

AMERICANYou use come out of the box to talk about how someone or something starts an activity or process. Back-to-school sales are coming out of the box very strongly. Note: This refers to the game of baseball. A player runs out of the box, which is the marked area where the batter stands, towards first base after hitting the ball.
