To examine, scrutinize, or inspect someone to see if they are worthy. Primarily heard in UK. Talent scouts for the football club have been running a rule over local players to see if there is anyone drafting up to the professional level. We've asked one of the directors to sit in on the interview and run a rule over applicants.
