1. To walk an assigned route with regularity. He actually resigned as a detective and went back to pounding a beat as a street cop. I never feel so alive as when I'm out pounding my beat, delivering letters and packages to my neighbors.
2. To produce a percussive rhythm, as on a drum. The drummer pounded a beat, and Drake started freestyling along to it. My heart started pounding a beat as he ran his fingers along the back of my neck.
