put the jinx on (something or someone)

To invoke a curse upon someone or something that brings bad luck or failure. A: "Oh wow, he could get a shutout." B: "Did you really just say the S-word? Now you've put the jinx on him!" Someone must be putting the jinx on our company, because everything seems to be going wrong lately.
