To fight with great passion and intensity. I would fight like a lion against anyone who threatens my home or family.

If someone fights like a lion, they fight very fiercely and bravely. She would have fought like a lion to protect her son. Note: Verbs such as battle and defend are sometimes used instead of fight. To win, Scotland must score goals. To draw, they must defend like lions.
