landline

A telephone, usually located in one's home or office, that is connected to a public network by on-land metal or optical fiber cables (as opposed to radio signals). A shortening of "landline telephone." Primarily heard in UK, Ireland. My mobile is dead, so call me on my landline at work. Our newest deal offers high-speed broadband and a landline connection for just €45 per month.
