A person who drinks alcohol habitually or excessively; a drunkard. Don't look at me like I'm some sort of lush—I just enjoy a glass of wine or two with my meals! I didn't notice it on our first couple of dates, but when he started pouring drinks for us on a Sunday afternoon, I started to suspect he might be a lush.

To drink an excessive amount of alcohol; to drink alcohol until one is thoroughly inebriated. There was a free bar at the wedding reception, so half the guests were lushed up before we even sat down to dinner. I've gotten too old to go out and lush up on a Friday night—my body can't handle the hangovers the next day!
