1. noun, slang Drugs, especially heroin. Poor guy has been hooked on junk since he was 15.
2. noun, vulgar slang The genitals, especially of a male. The soccer ball hit him right in the junk! I felt bad for the guy, but it was also pretty funny to see. My junk has been itching for the last few days. I think I'd better see a doctor.

4. verb, informal To dispose of something as garbage. A: "Do you want this old trophy from your sixth-grade Little League team?" B: "Nah, you can junk it." I wish I hadn't junked my old record player. I never knew it was such a valuable antique!

junk bond

A corporate bond that has a high yield but also carries a low rating and high risk of default. They were making huge profits trading junk bonds, but then the market collapsed and they were stuck with worthless securities they couldn't get rid of.

junk fax

Unwanted, unsolicited advertisements sent to someone's fax machine. It is the same in principle as junk mail or spam emails. We've been getting nothing but junk faxes for the last three days. I'm nearly ready to unplug the dang thing!

junk food

1. Food that lacks actual nutritional value. No wonder you're hungry again—you only ate junk food earlier.
2. By extension, anything that is appealing but seems to have little discernable value or benefit. Your brain is going to rot if you keep watching junk food like these stupid reality shows.

Any building or vehicle that is decrepit or dilapidated. I've been driving this old junk heap around for so long because I just can't bear to part with it! Wow, I never realized their house was such a junk heap.

junk in the trunk

slang Additional fat in one's buttocks (typically on a woman). The term is used both positively and negatively. Primarily heard in US. I like a curvy woman, one with a little junk in the trunk! I need to start working out again—I've got too much junk in the trunk these days.

Unsolicited mail that the recipient is not interested in or does not want, often advertisements. Nothing exciting came today—just a few bills and some junk mail.

junk squad

dated slang A division, department, or agency of law-enforcement officials who specialize in policing the illegal drug trade. ("Junk" is a slang term for illicit drugs, especially heroin.) I was in homicide for a few years, then they transferred me to the junk squad. The boss thinks there's a rat in the outfit leaking information of our drug trade to the junk squad.

junk tank

slang A prison cell or section reserved for drug addicts. (A play on "drunk tank.") Look, a junkie who's jonesing is a danger to themselves and others. Best to keep them in the junk tank, away from the others.

junkyard dog

An especially nasty, vicious, or savage person or animal (especially a dog). Of a person, often used in the phrase "meaner than a junkyard dog." Though he's always polite when he's in public, Tim's husband is meaner than a junkyard dog behind closed doors. That standard poodle may look cute and fluffy, but it's a junkyard dog, you can be sure about that.
