1. slang Any unpleasant residue or matter. The word originated as a trademark name for a degreasing solution. You're gonna need a more powerful cleaner to get that gunk off the sides of the tub. I was just working on my car, so I need to wash this gunk off my hands.
2. slang A glue or aerosol that one inhales in order to become high. Gunk is dangerous stuff, you know.

gunk up

To cause something to be filled or covered with some thick, greasy, or filthy substance. A noun or pronoun can be used between "gunk" and "up." You've got to make sure no dirt gets into the seal, or it could start to gunk up the inside of the machinery. I hate it when the kids get ahold of my phone, because they invariable gunk the screen up.
