give (one) a rough idea of (something)

To give one an approximate estimate or general conception about something. There will of course be a lot more details when we get started in earnest, but these sketches should give you a rough idea of what it will look like. I completed a similar program a few years ago, so that gave me a rough idea of what to expect.
