give (someone) a lift

1. To drive someone to a particular location. Hey, if you're not busy, do you think you could give me a lift to the movies?
2. To cause someone to feel happy, especially if they are sad. I struggle with homesickness a lot, but talking to my family back home gives me a lift. Hearing that people like my art always gives me a lift!

2. Fig. to raise someone's spirits; to make a person feel better. It was a good conversation, and her kind words really gave me a lift.
