1. To be spurned, jilted, or rejected by someone, especially a lover or romantic interest. Samantha has had a broken heart ever since she got the elbow from Rebecca.
2. To be summarily dismissed or ousted from employment; to be fired. The new accountant got the elbow after a miscalculation cost the company hundreds of thousands of dollars.
