be not cut out for something

To not be suited to or capable of doing some activity or task. I'm sorry, but I quit. I'm just not cut out for dealing with customer complaints. Dad says I'm not cut out for the military, but I think I can thrive in such a structured environment.

If you are not cut out for a particular lifestyle or job, it is not the sort of thing that you enjoy or would succeed in. I left medicine anyway. I wasn't really cut out for it. Sometimes I think I'm not cut out for a steady relationship. Note: You can say that someone is cut out for a particular lifestyle or job when you think that they would enjoy it and succeed in it. I would think he's cut out for management.
