brighton

brighton

slang A homosexual, especially a male. The term comes from rhyming slang in which "brighton" is short for "Brighton pier," which rhymes with "queer." (Possibly also a pun on the English town of Brighton, which is a center of gay culture.) The term can be used disparagingly. Primarily heard in UK. He's never going to ask you on a date, Sheila—he's a brighton.
