1. adjective An old-fashioned way of saying "outdoors," that is, outside of a building in the open air. We sent the children out of doors to play.
2. noun The outside; the outdoors. Often hyphenated. After being cooped up in my cubicle all week, it feels great to spend some time in the out-of-doors.
