2. To regard someone or something as contemptible or inferior to oneself and thus act in a haughty or snobbish manner toward them or it. The well-dressed businessman looked down at the young woman wearing jeans and a T-shirt as they shared the elevator to the top, not realizing that she was the company's new CEO. I have no idea why some people look down at those who speak with an accent—that just means they know at least two languages!
