Originally an abbreviation of "laughing out loud" or "laugh out loud," the term is used especially in online writing and text messaging (often uncapitalized), but is sometimes spoken. It can be used to indicate varying degrees of funniness, including literal audible laughing. A: "And so I said that I would CUT him a deal, get it?" B: "LOL!"
