Sexton Blake; sexton noun- a fake; a forgery UK
Rhyming slang, formed on the name of a fictional detective who first appeared in 1893 and continued in print well into the 1960s. British artist Tom Keating, 1917–84, famously forged works attributed to Gainsborough, Degas, Boucher, Fragonard, Renoir and Modigliani; in 1976 he confessed to having painted 2,000 Sexton Blakes. - But there’s hundreds of Sexton Blakes all over the place.
