释义 | hard-boiled adjective callous, cynical, emotionally uninvolved, tough; describing the characteristics of macho tough guys in “hard-boiled” pulp fiction US, 1904 Figurative usage of the solid properties of hard-boiled eggs, or clothing vigorously boiled in starch; applied by Mark Twain (1835–1910) to refer to rigid rules of grammar (1886); in the early 1900s it applied to hard or stiff clothing; by 1918 it was being used to describe a person who stuck rigidly to the rules; from which the current sense evolved.
