The “jack schooners” or “jack boats” so-called in Cape Breton, or “two-spar boats” as they are known in Newfoundland, were 40 or 50 feet from stemhead to taffrail. They were gaff-rigged on both masts and they usually carried a longish bowsprit. — NationalFisherman, p. 36, 24 March 1982
