Used to introduce a hypothetical outcome that one believes ought to occur based on one's own assumptions or understanding of reality. You'd think the boss would drive a nicer car, considering the amount of money he earns each month. Every politician pays lip service to the importance of education. You would think that they would give it more public funding then, right?
