yank up

To pull, tug, or jerk someone or something upward. A noun or pronoun can be used between "yank" and "up." I yanked my head up to see what was going on after the alarm sounded. The officer handcuffed the suspect, yanked him up off the ground, and shoved him into the police cruiser.
