turn about
1. verb, obsolete To rotate. The Earth turns about on a vertical axis, which gives us our nights and days.
2. verb, obsolete To revolve around (something). The Earth turns about the Sun, which gives us our seasons.
3. verb, obsolete To cause someone or something to rotate in one or more circles. A noun or pronoun can be used between "turn" and "about." The tailor turned me about to take the measurements of my shoulders and back. She turned about the figurine, examining its every detail.
4. verb, obsolete To rotate until oriented in the opposite direction. I turned about and surveyed the ranks of soldiers who were prepared for battle. The owl's head turned about, and it blinked at us with its large orange eyes.
5. noun A reversal, often one that is just or equitable, as of opportunity or outcome. (A variant of "turnabout.") If you start rumors about other people, they'll eventually do the same thing to you. Turn about is fair play, after all.
