trade up from (something)
To exchange something smaller, less expensive, or inferior in quality (for something better, larger, or more expensive). We just had our second child, so we'll need to trade up from our tiny hatchback. They've got a lot of great deals at the moment if you're looking to trade up from your crappy old laptop.
