worship (someone or something) as (something)
1. To revere, honor, or be devoted to someone or something as a figure or icon of religious significance. His acts of selflessness have been so renowned that he is worshipped as a saint around the world. The tribe worships this statue as a holy idol, their fortune resting on whether or not they please it with the proper rites.
2. To regard someone or something with adoration, admiration, or esteem due to their or its status or position. A lot of people worship her as some kind of heroic figure, a rebel against the established sociopolitical hierarchy of the industry. I know plenty of people who all but worship their phones as their conduit to the rest of the world.

To be filled with awe and admiration for one; to think exceedingly highly of one. His supporters worship the ground he walks on, so even if you present them with concrete proof that he's done something wrong, they'll still find some way to justify looking past it. I was utterly infatuated with him when I was an undergrad, worshiping the ground she walked on.

worship the porcelain god
slang To vomit into a toilet. Doing so often requires one to kneel in front of or bend over the toilet (the "porcelain god"), a position that is likened to kneeling before or bowing to a sacred idol. A variant of "worship the porcelain goddess." If Tommy doesn't slow down on the vodka, he's going to be up worshipping the porcelain goddess all night. I've never thrown up so much in my life. I can't wait till I stop worshipping the porcelain god.

To hold in reverent regard. This hyperbole for great admiration or deep romantic feeling has an archaic ring to it. Indeed, Christopher Hale wrote, in Murder in Tow (1943), “He worships the ground she walks on. Bill thought there should be a closed season on that cliché for about twenty years.” The season remains open.
