1. A phrase used to politely ask that one or more other people move out of the way. A: "Will you excuse me? This is my stop." B: "Oh, of course. Pardon me." Would you all excuse me, please? I need to get through with this service cart.
2. A phrase used to inform someone or a group that one must depart. I'm sorry, but would you excuse me? I really should be getting back to work.
3. A phrase used to inform someone else that one needs a moment of privacy. Will you excuse me, please? I really need to take this phone call.
